 MICHAEL Gungor

Michael Gungor, Vertical Music worship leader/songwriter, and co-author of the Dove nominated song of the year “Friend of God,” lives to help other people encounter God through worship.
“There is hardly anything that is more rewarding or more enjoyable to me than to help people enter the presence of God,” says the 25-year-old.
The formerly shy teen who led his fellow high school students in worship now leads thousands of people of all ages and writes worship songs that are sung around the world. As a worship leader at his home church, Resurrection Life in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Michael leads over 7,000 people in weekly services. He also serves as the featured worship leader for Acquire The Fire’s national conference events.
“What I do now is not that much different from what I did back then,” he laughs. “Now there’s just more people.”
Michael is extremely serious about music and ministry. He studied music at North Texas University and Western Michigan University and has been influenced by a broad scope of musical genres including rock, jazz, world music and almost everything in between.
His love of music and passion for ministry led him to record two CDs, Bigger Than My Imagination and Battle Cry: Worship from the Frontlines with Vertical Music. His 2003 debut Bigger Than My Imagination caught the ear of consumers and critics alike and was hailed by ChristianityToday.com as “one of the year's best worship albums from one of the most promising new worship leaders.”
His latest CD, Battle Cry: Worship From the Frontlines, was recorded live on the campus of Teen Mania Ministries in Lindale, Texas. The project, which will be released in October 2005, includes worship music featured during the fall 2005 and spring 2006 Acquire The Fire conferences, which are expected to draw more than 250,000 students.
“This worship is an intense cry for God to be known from a group of people in love with and impassioned for this upcoming generation,” says Michael of the new album. “Our battle cry is more than songs and words; it is everything that we are.”
